Talking in Tongues
04:26

|

Can't you sleep?
Your anger cannot last a lifetime
Can't you sleep while knowing he's there by your side?
Just please save this for daylight
And save him the time.
And tell me what would you want to lie for
'Cause it's not the first time
And it won't be the last time
That you talk in tongues.
Can't you see?
His patience would last for a lifetime
Can't you see it waiting right there by your side?
It's too late for you now
Just go home now, go home now man.
And tell me what would you want to lie for
'Cause it's not the first time
And it won't be the last time
That we talk in tongues
It is too late for you now
Can't you see that he's already moved on girl
Can't you see, can't you see, he's no longer there by your side

Circles

We move in circles, in cycles, incessantly
Caught in the whirlpool of our own history
There may come a time when you think you've pulled free
But you're wrong man, trust me you'll see.
We move in circles, in cycles, incessantly
Caught in the whirlpool of our own history
There may come a time when you think you've pulled free
But you're wrong man, just wait and see.
Let's take it back to the start
A little near nowhere I came out of the dark
Out of place, out of time, I couldn't ignore the signs.
'Cause I'd been swimming in circles in an empty sea
Swimming in circles with one faint belief
That I would find my land, find my anchor,
And with it I would find my answer.
I'd find my answer.
We move in circles, in cycles, incessantly
Caught in the whirlpool of our own history
There may come a time when you think you've pulled free
But you're wrong man, I'm sorry but you're wrong.

Cobwebs

She's unnaturally wise, for being only 25
She says she can hear me smiling
She has a healthy joie de vivre, a certain je ne sais quoi
I can't speak French but I'm trying.
Oh I just don't know if I'm ready
To do this again quite yet
Oh I just don't know if I'm ready
And yet, and yet...
Oh I'm the libra on the fence, she's the leo in the fray
Picking fights with the drunks in the cold
It wasn't meant to be this soon, it wasn't meant to be this way
She made all my best plans unfold.
Well I just don't know if I'm ready
To do this again quite yet
Oh I just don't know if I'm ready
And yet, and yet...
Open up and find the cobwebs left by you
Cleaning up and making space for something new
Wash away the blood and rinse away the sweat
Dust me off 'cause I swear I'm not done quite yet.
Oh I just don't know if I'm ready
To do this again quite yet
Oh I just don't know if I'm ready
And yet, and yet.

Broken Rib Poetry
03:47
|
|
||
Where the lines have blurred and the colours merged
We still trudge on undeterred
Into the black, into the white
Hurtling on into the night
Just trying to find a way to break the glass
Or any way to change the fact
That we're nothing going nowhere and we'll never be more
Than the dust-trails and footprints we leave on this floor.
To the hours that remain raise your glass to the sky
Before we all dissolve into the background
Our shared insignificance isn't the only reason why
We need to mean something to someone
You said I should come to terms with time and learn to fall in line
Realise it's not a test and settle for second best
But now all that is left of all that you told me
Are chipped-tooth dreams and broken rib poetry.
But now all that is left of all that you told me
Are chipped-tooth dreams and broken rib poetry.

An Ode to Words
05:21
|
|

Oh I'd been collecting and filing away
And saving all the right things to say
For the time when I could use them
'Cause somedays I lose the power to speak
My voice is just too weak
It fails me when I really need it most
But now somehow all the words that should've been said
Have been written down and hidden away instead
And there's something that I've sadly come to know
Oh I can't keep track of all the things I wish I'd said
There's just not room enough inside my crowded head
Well most people listen just to reply
Instead of listening to understand why
You chose the words you'd chosen
Well this is the voice of a man who prefers to listen
Oh honestly you don't know what you've been missing
I've got half a mind to turn my back and go
'Cause I can't keep track of all the things I wish I'd said
There's just not room enough inside my crowded head
Just because words are free doesn't mean that they're worthless
Respect and revere them they exist for a purpose
Oh all those words that we whisper, those words that we shout
All those words that we fear to even spell out
All those words that we share, those words that we keep
All those words that your mother would not let you repeat
Oh all those words that we scream and those words that we sing
All those words that are said on one knee with a ring
All those words that we fake, that cause us to shake
All those words that torture us as we lie awake
And well the point that I making in my roundabout way
Is don't ever regret the things you don't say
Just because words are free doesn't mean that they're worthless
Don't use them and abuse them they exist for a purpose
So don't be afraid of making a scene
Just go tell your loved ones all that they mean
Because nobody knows which will be their last day
And frankly, that is all that I wanted to say.

A Better Man
02:43
|
|
||
I've gotta beg your pardon
I've got to make a start
A little change of view
A bigger change of heart
There's not much time remaining
So I'll do all I can
To finally change my ways
To be a better man
There won't be a jury
There won't be a trial
You won't receive forgiveness
You, you don't deserve denial
You know this can't go on
It's time for a change of plan
To finally change your ways
To be a better man
You've read my words
You've heard my voice
It's time we take a stand
It's time we make a choice
We've gotta turn and face it
There's nothing else left to do
It's time to make amends
It's time to pay our dues
We've reach the crossroads
But there's only one path to choose
It's time to lead the way
It's time to light the fuse.

Down to This
05:29
|
|
||
Dark bridges under dark skies
Join dark shores in the well of her eyes
Behind the silence and beyond control
Questions still burn and crackle like coal
Until the telephone rings, she finds she still clings
To that greying, decaying meaning of things
But as she reaches for the light, she realises he's right
Oh no one, but no one, would give up this fight.
Not a sound, no more than smoke
Oh nothing more could fix what he'd broke
Beside himself but beneath contempt
Only one person could halt his descent
And then the telephone rings, and he finds he still clings
To that greying, decaying meaning of things
But as he heads into the night, he realises she's right
Oh no one, but no one, would give up this fight.
Can't you see all you'll miss?
In the end it will all come down to this
All you do and how you live
In the end it will come down to this
Can't you see all you'd miss?
In the end it will all come down to this
All you do and how you live
In the end it will all come down to this
Can't you see all you'll miss?
'Cause it will all come down, all come down to this.
