Broken Rib Poetry

from Talking in Tongues by Tom Sharrock

/

lyrics

Where the lines have blurred and the colours merged
We still trudge on undeterred
Into the black, into the white
Hurtling on into the night
Just trying to find a way to break the glass
Or any way to change the fact
That we're nothing going nowhere and we'll never be more
Than the dust-trails and footprints we leave on this floor.

To the hours that remain raise your glass to the sky
Before we all dissolve into the background
Our shared insignificance isn't the only reason why
We need to mean something to someone
You said I should come to terms with time and learn to fall in line
Realise it's not a test and settle for second best
But now all that is left of all that you told me
Are chipped-tooth dreams and broken rib poetry.

But now all that is left of all that you told me
Are chipped-tooth dreams and broken rib poetry.
